Billy Reid is happy with his squad

Clyde boss Billy Reid yesterday signed Scott Wilson from Airdrie United and declared himself happy with his squad for the new season.

After beginning his reign as Clyde boss with a paper thin squad, Reid has wheeled and dealed and brought in some excellent players on his modest budget. Despite Ian Harty's move to several clubs falling through, meaning less money to spend, as well as the recent Pools saga, which reduced SFL club's spending power by £20,000 Reid has signed several of his top targets.

Wilson is a 6'3 tall cente-back, who was born in one of those towns which has produced many great players, Bellshill. After spending three years with Motherwell, Wilson moved to Airdrie United in August of 2002. The 22 year old played 38 games for Airdrie United, although none of these were against his new employers. However, he was on the bench in last season's league cup tie.

Wilson will not be able to play against Dundee United in the League Cup tie, which will take place in a couple of weeks, as he played for Airdrie United in a 3-0 win over East Fife, in the same tournament.

The new centreback played in yesterday's Challenge Cup game with Stranraer and although he did well defensively, he was inclined to play several aimless balls up to Clyde's small strikers. However Billy Reid hasn't made a bad signing yet, so Wilson will hopefully continue this record.

For the record, here is Clyde's 1st team squad for this season:

Goalkeepers:

Bryn Halliwell
Allan Morrison

Defenders:

Simon Mensing
John Potter
Gary Bollan
Eddie Malone
Scott Wilson
Stuart Balmer
Paul Doyle (On loan to Montrose)

Midfielders:

Jimmy Gibson
Darren Sheridan
Craig Bryson
Alex Walker (On loan from Glasgow Rangers)
David Greenhill (On loan to Montrose)

Strikers:

Ian Harty
Aron Wilford
Mark Gilhaney
Gary Arbuckle
Arron Conway (On loan from Dundee United)

This squad is complimented by a bright bunch of youngsters, including Graham McCracken and Kevin Bradley. We also have Jean Louis Valois at the club, however this deal may not be permanent.
