Boss McCormack parts with Clyde

"The club has reluctantly accepted that relegation looks inevitable and feels it should be looking towards next season earlier than usual," Clyde said.

McCormack took charge in November after the sacking of John Brown.

Clyde were forced to release almost their whole squad to avoid administration at the end of last season, when they were relegated from Division One.

Neil Watt, in his director of football capacity, will take charge of the team until the end of the season

Clyde statement

Brown recruited a new squad on vastly reduced wages, while McCormack also released a number of those players and brought in additions of his own, but neither could arrest the Bully Wee's decline.

And the 54-year-old former Dundee, Queen's Park, Morton and Albion Rovers manager's short-term contract - he had initially arrived as Brown's assistant in September - was due to end in the summer.

"Last summer's difficulties were well documented and the club wants to avoid any repetition and feels that putting its plan in place over the next few weeks is important rather than starting another search in the summer for a new manager," said the statement on the club website.

"When Neil Watt was appointed director of football in August, he said that he would take his time to look at the whole club and to make recommendations to the board about the football structure.

"Current developments allow Neil to bring forward his ideas of how the football activities of the club should be handled in the future and this will be under discussion over the coming days."

Watt, the former Stranraer and Ayr United manager, will take charge until the end of the season.

"In the meantime, as is customary in this type of situation, Neil, in his director of football capacity, will take charge of the team for Wednesday's league match with Alloa Athletic and thereafter until the end of the season," added the statement.

"It is not anticipated that any early appointments will be made.

"The board of directors would like to thank John for his unquestionable effort and enthusiasm over what is currently a very difficult period for the club.

"He has worked tremendously hard. Unfortunately, that has not been matched by results.

"He has always passionately believed he could improve the club's league position, particularly with the influx of players in January.

"And, whilst we have seen some improved performances, the results did not follow."
