Despite plenty of sweat and three shots rattling the woodwork, this was a mediocre goal-less draw which suited bottom-of- the-table Clyde better than Partick, whose poor recent record at Broadwood continued.

The Jags looked understandably jaded after their heroic mid-week cup defeat to Motherwell.

But the signs were all positive in the early stages, and in a bright opening spell Thistle full-back Scott McCulloch clipped the outside of the post with a dipping 30-yard free-kick. Partick went close again after 20 minutes when Mark Roberts made contact from a corner kick and goalkeeper Peter Cherrie needed to make an important reflex save.

In the 27th minute Clyde's Eddie Malone fired in a wicked curling effort which was pushed over the top by veteran keeper Kenny Arthur.

At the other end former Celtic and Scotland forward Simon Donnelly chose poorly when well placed, neither going for goal himself nor being able to pick out Pat Keogh in the penalty area. Donnelly wasted another clear chance early in the second half.

Ex-Hearts youngster Craig Sives nodded a McCulloch corner over the bar for Thistle, but Clyde had the better of the second period and twice hit the woodwork in the closing quarter.

A 25-yard rocket from Paul McHale flew back off the underside of the bar, and Dougie Imrie found the top of the same crossbar with a deflected volley two minutes from time.
