Clyde were the visitors to new Douglas Park to take on Billy Reid's Hamilton Accies, with the away side displaying no love lost for Reid who departed from the Bully Wee at the tail end of last season in acrimonious circumstances.

The away side appeared to be the more urgent out of the two competitors and almost took the lead after only four minutes when Alex Williams picked up a loose pass 20 yards from goal and forced a fine save from Hamilton keeper David McEwan.

The ball rolled loose to the on-rushing Kevin Bradley, but the winger could only watch in horror as his six-yard effort was superbly parried by McEwan who displayed superhuman reflexes to get to his feet so quickly.

Accies began to work their way into the match with winger Paul McMullan's trickery being worthy of the gate admission alone. Once the wide man had stopped entertaining, he found the time to swing a dangerous ball into the box which looped over the head of Peter Cherrie in the Clyde goal and cannoned back of the face of the bar.

Clyde began to take the game by the scruff of the net with midfielder Stephen O'Donnell putting in a virtuoso performance as he was at the centre of every Clyde attack.

In the 55th minute, O'Donnell burst down the left hand side and fired a low ball into the box. Striker Alex Williams stretched to meet the ball, but McEwan dived bravely at the front man's feet to smother his effort, injuring himself in the process.

Both sides brought on substitutes in the second half in a match that looked like it would end in a stalemate.

Hamilton were able to capitalise on their tactical tinkering first as substitute Brian Carrigan was only on the field for 60 seconds before he put his side in front when he met a Mark Gilhaney cross from 16 yards to drive low into the back of the net in the 72nd minute.

Clyde brought on former Aberdeen legend Joe Miller who, at the ripe age of 38, still has a few tricks up his sleeve.

The miniscule winger became the away side's hero as he rescued a point with five minutes to go when O'Donnell burst down the left again to loop over a back-post cross. Miller was on hand to head the ball through the legs of McEwan from two yards out to salvage a point for the Bully Wee.
